Group 24: Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna
A Brief History of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna
Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna (FSSA) is a third order regular of St. Francis of Assisi and Catholic Community of women religious called to reach out to the marginalized and promote girl-child education. Our sisters are called to bring the compassion and the presence of God in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and mother Johana of Jesus to all those whom we meet and with whom we minister.
The FSSA was founded in Oudenbosch-Netherlands in 1838; the Principal house is in Utawala-Nairobi Kenya. We have members in the Netherland and E. Africa, we are committed to a life rooted in daily personal and communal prayer as well as ongoing conversion as expressed in the Gospel teaching and lived by St. Francis of Assisi and Mother Johana of Jesus.
Responding to an ever-changing world and growing needs of the society, the sisters moved and established communities in Kenya in East Africa in 1958 in the archdiocese of Kisumu in western Kenya on the shores of Lake Victoria. Here our sisters minister in diverse areas that include Education at all levels, healthcare, social ministry, pastoral as well as hospitality ministries. We pay more attention to the girl-child, the orphans and the marginalized of the society.
Vision: Making Christ’s good news of salvation visible to all.
Charism: Called to sacredness and dignity of the life among the marginalized and the less fortunate in expression of mutual love purity of heart, poverty of spirit and mortification of the body.

Reason for the Mission Appeal
The mission appeal funds for 2021 will be used to fund programs at Nyamonye Small Home. These include: feeding of the children, purchasing of education resources, correction surgeries, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and taking care of the medical needs of the children.
Nyamonye Small Home was founded in 1981 in Kisumu Archdiocese by Rev. Fr. Kraakman. It is situated in East Yimbo Location in Bondo District in Siaya County in Kenya along the Lake region. The Small Home is currently run by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna and is a home for 50 children who are physically challenged from different parts of the country.
