The Catholic Social Action Office works to help the Church to act effectively in defense of human dignity, human rights and the pursuit of justice and peace. Staff members assist with effort such as homeless shelters, food pantries, meal programs, welfare reform, violence prevention, healthcare and advocacy.
The Catholic Social Action Office includes the following programs:
Social Justice Ministry
This ministry strives to build the capacity of the diocesan Church to act effectively in defense of human dignity, human rights, and the pursuit of justice and peace.
Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)
The mission of CCHD is to address the root causes of poverty in America through education and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations.
Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
CRS is the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic community serving 100 countries to alleviate suffering and provide assistance to people in need.
Operation Rice Bowl (ORB) ORB is a Lenten program designed to increase food security that fosters solidarity between the poor of the world and the U.S. Catholic community.
