The Office for Schools provides oversight, support, and services for all 125 Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the 10 counties of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The department oversees the following areas:
The Academics and Faith Formation Center of Excellence focuses on schools’ high academic achievement, strong Catholic identity, integration of technology, and initiatives such as multi-age classrooms to enhance students’ learning. The Leadership Center of Excellence focuses on identifying, developing, and supporting quality leadership for our schools. Special emphasis is placed on programs to promote effective school planning and on training for elementary and secondary school boards/committees. Both the AFCOE and the LCOE work closely with the Archdiocesan Schools’ Theology and Faith Formation Committee (STAFF) in overseeing our Catholic schools’ theology curriculum and in the preparation of adult faith formation teams to design and implement faith formation programs in their school. Discovery Project is a K-12 collaboration that allows gifted and talented students in all of our K-8 schools the opportunity to participate in on-line courses designed and delivered by teachers in Catholic high schools. Learning Support Teams, comprised of individual schools’ leaders and selected teachers, build the capacity of schools to meet the needs of all students within the classroom. This effort aims to strengthen a school’s mission and Catholic identity, improve teaching and student learning, increase a school’s vitality, and grow school enrollment. School Accreditation is a process for monitoring and supporting ongoing quality in our Catholic schools. Elementary and high school communities study and analyze all aspects of school life and programming and produce, as a result, a School Improvement Plan. An external team spends several days at the school reviewing and validating the school’s findings as a reliable form of quality assurance. The Office for Schools partners with the Greater Milwaukee Catholic Education Consortium (GMCEC) as it marshals the academic resources and professional expertise of the region’s five Catholic higher education institutions in order to sustain and promote quality P-16 Catholic education. In addition to the services and programs described above, the Office for Schools directs schools regarding legal and policy-related issues, assists with school collaborations and consolidations, and plans strategically for the future of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
