Be in Communion

Be in Communion

With God

God is love. He is constantly reaching out to us to draw us into His love. At our core, we long for that union with our loving Creator. God invites us into communion with Himself through prayer. We can enter this communion through:

  • Praying with Scripture (we suggest starting with the Daily Gospels)
  • Making an Act of Spiritual Communion
  • Learning more about your faith by studying the Catechism, other spiritual books, or an online program
  • Other Devotions (the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, intercession of the Saints)
  • Closing your day with an Examen

With Your Home

In the hustle and bustle of “normal” life, we easily overlook the relationships most important in this life. Whether it is our spouse, roommates, children, or extended family - in this unique time, God is calling us to draw closer to them. A few ways we can do this include:

  • Schedule common meal times - and cook together!
  • Regularly call/text family members
  • Do things together (walks, board games, read a great book out loud)
  • Communicate well - and be ready to say "I'm sorry" and "I forgive you"
  • Don't forget to take care of yourself (shower every day, work out, journal, and pursue a new hobby!)
  • Participate in Virtue Groups for Couples

With Your Neighbor

Our faith challenges us “to love your neighbor as yourself.” Do you know who your neighbors are? Who has God placed next door, across the street, and right in front of you? God wants us to encourage, love, and support each other as He does. A few practical ways to grow in communion with our neighbors include:

  • Write an encouraging note and leave it in their mailbox
  • Offer to do store runs, especially for neighbors with health risks
  • Put your Christmas lights up to spread some cheer!
  • Ask for prayer requests from your neighbors
  • Continue to financially support your parish as well as local businesses

With the Globe

We all belong to one human family and God calls us to work in solidarity for the good of all His children. Here are some ways we can draw close to those suffering in other communities, states, and nations:

  • Stay informed of how the crisis is affecting others around the world
  • Intentionally pray for those needs and for those suffering
  • Offer up any of your own suffering or inconvenience for others
  • Give generously to aid organizations
  • Share positivity, joy, and encouragement on social media
