Being a part of the mission experience is wonderfully overwhelming! Singling out one significant image or impression is difficult. Upon reflection however, the image that touched my heart the deepest is one of family love and pride.
“People are people.” We often hear this said, but do we really believe it? I sometimes think that we very fortunate Americans feel a bit “superior” to those living in a third world country. Despite the fact that we may have been blest with many more material “things,” in matters of the heart, in what means the most……like family and love and faith……we are all on even ground.
Being a part of the mission experience is wonderfully overwhelming! Singling out one significant image or impression is difficult. Upon reflection however, the image that touched my heart the deepest is one of family love and pride. The day before we left Sabana Yegua, we stopped to see the progress on the “Pig Project.” Richard and Ana stood in the doorway of their tiny two-room house surrounded by four of their five small children. To our standards, they have very little, but they smiled happily and broadly. Petite little Ana, holding their baby in her arms, looked up at her tall husband with such love and pride that if brought a tear to my eye. I turned to one of my fellow travelers and said, ‘Now, THAT is love!!’” Mothers love their children. Parents want the best for their family. Husbands love their wives. Everyone deserves shelter and food We all want peace.
PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE……..right?
