The Catholic Church teaches that decent, safe, and affordable housing is a human right. Affordable housing poses a challenge in both rural and urban counties throughout Wisconsin. Tragically, over half of Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Walworth County households pay more than 30% of their income for housing. Although there are several on-going Catholic responses to this social issue, we need to do more. Habitat for Humanity is just one of many organizations working to address these issues.
Each country in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has a local Habitat affiliate. Click below to learn more about how Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Catholic parishes within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and how you can help!
In Milwaukee County, to build on existing collaborations the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, along with Catholic Financial Life and Milwaukee’s Family of Four Parishes, is sponsoring Sr. Thea Bowman’s Milwaukee Catholic House, which is one of four 2022 faith-build houses for Milwaukee’s Habitat for Humanity. On Thursday July 21, 2022 at 10 a.m., Archbishop Listecki will bless the Sr. Thea Bowman’s Milwaukee Catholic House in the Harambee neighbor of Milwaukee.
