In honor of the 25th anniversary of our sisterhood with Sagrada Familia in the Dominican Republic, St. Kilian School in Hartford held a special event to raise funds and awareness for our sister parish. Joan Schnorenberg, the student council moderator, shares the story:
"October 2006 marked the 25th anniversary of our ties with our sister parish La Sagrada Familia in the Dominican Republic. I was given a packet of information about La Sagrada Familia and how we became their sister parish. That is the first time I'd really heard anything about that Parish, and felt that there probably were more parish members who had never heard about our sister parish.
The Student Council planned to host a social after all Masses on the last weekend in October. With the information we had and a little research done on the computer, we made posters that could be viewed at the social by all the parishioners. Each poster covered a specific topic. The 5th grade made a poster about the parish and school, 6th grade were responsible for the facts about the location of the parish and the area, 7th grade displayed a poster about how La Sagrada Familia became our sister parish, and the 8th grade made a poster about the needs of the parish and how we can help. In addition, the Student council held a bake sale that raised over $190.00, which we sent to La Sagrada Familia through the representative at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee."
World Mission Ministries is grateful to St. Kilian's student council, staff, and students for helping share knowledge about and celebrate with our sister parish.
