  Help Defeat "Window Legislation" Bill

Time is of the Essence

We need your help to defeat a major threat to the Catholic Church in our state.

Assembly Bill 453, which will probably be debated in the Assembly on or before November 5, opens a three-year “window” in which persons who were abused as children can bring civil lawsuits against their abusers and those who employed them.

The window is identical to a law adopted two years ago in Delaware. Litigation stemming from that law’s enactment has forced the Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware, to declare bankruptcy.

Share the attached “action alert” with parishes and Catholic agencies in your area, including staff and volunteers. Its message: Call your Assembly Representative and tell them to oppose AB 453.

The WCC will also circulate this alert on its electronic advocacy network.

To find contact information for your representative, see the attached WCC 2009-10 Legislative Directory. (All assembly representatives’ email addresses follow the same format, Rep.Lastname@legis.wisconsin.gov.)

To find out who your representative is, visit the WCC’s E-Advocacy webpage and enter your zip code, or visit the State Legislature’s Web site and click on “Who Represents Me?”
