  2010 Art Contest - Step 1

Learn About Locally Funded CCHD Groups
& Preparing for the Contest

The Multi-Media Youth Arts Contest was developed by CCHD to reach out to youth and encourage them to work in a creative way on projects that explore the issues of poverty and injustice in the United States. The contest is open to students in grades seven through 12 in Catholic parishes and schools.

Students of the Archdiocese are invited to participate in the contest by interpreting the theme, “Empowering Communities, Uprooting Poverty” through visual arts, audio-visual means or literature.

Original works are to be submitted to the Office of Social Justice by March 3, 2010 for diocesan-level competition. Local winners will be forwarded to Washington for final judging by a panel of art and religion professionals.

STEP ONE: PREPARING FOR THE CONTEST

Students are invited to examine the world around them and interpret poverty through their art. We hope to be encouraged by their understanding and ability to see hope and compassion in the actions of locally funded CCHD groups. One requirement for entries is that students learn about actual ways in which poor people are ending poverty by working together in their local communities by building an understanding of at least one CCHD funded group. This can be either a locally funded or nationally funded group. Below is the list of CCHD locally funded groups who were awarded grants for the July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 program year. Links to videos of national grant recipients follows the local list.
