High School Theology Teacher

The High School Theology Teacher will be motivated to make a positive impact on high school students, and has the ability to promote the role of faith in education and leadership while keeping a focus on academic success and help students achieve their fullest potential. The High School Theology Teacher will engage positively and professionally with the high school team to create a positive culture and ensure student success. 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position.  This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned. 

  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to adult and adolescent development and learning, and collaboration with a growth mindset in his/her professional practice.

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate instruction for the prescribed curriculum for the subject area(s) he/she is teaching. Manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain records, and plan lessons. 

  • Understand and apply strategies (e.g. differentiation and extension) and best practices (eg. models, think-aloud, mini-lessons, multiple drafts, reflection, effective group work) to ensure student success. 

  • Implement, execute, and measure academic success at the classroom level. Use data collected using formative and summative assessments to discuss and inform instruction.

  • Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures related to the school. Follow established teaching protocols and programs to ensure consistency among classes. 

  • Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. Oversee classroom discipline and escalate issues to appropriate personnel, as applicable. 

  • High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents.

  • Participate in and attend all faculty meetings and professional development sessions

  • Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerts, and achievement with students, families, and the school community.

  • Provide leadership in ensuring a positive school culture for adults and students.

  • Use and integrate technology in classroom and project instruction.

  • Proactively and effectively communicate with all school personnel, families, and colleagues in a timely manner

  • Participate in the school-wide teacher coaching program; receiving feedback and actively working to continuously improve teaching practice and overall performance

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor of Arts/Science from a four-year college or university; prefer but not required: minor in religious studies or theology from an accredited Catholic institution of higher learning

  • Required Certifications/Licenses: Licensed educator or working toward licensure

  • Experience: Prefer but not required - experience in Catholic, urban education

  • Proven ability in using student level data to guide instructional decisions 

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and listening skills with keen attention to detail
