Director of Faith Formation

Overview:

The Basilica's Faith Formation needs are diverse, as it has a religious education program for children of the parish, a large number of home schooling families, and many young adults. It is also one of the largest wedding destinations in the Archdiocese, affording an opportunity to provide faith formation to many young couples at this important point in their lives. The Director of Faith Formation will be at the heart of passing on the Catholic faith to this diverse group. Supporting the Rector & Pastor, he/she will administer current formation programs and sacramental preparation while, at the same time, explore new ways of formation responsive to the needs of those who call the Basilica home. The Director of Faith Formation will be supportive of home schooling. The Basilica also has a parish school which serves the residents of its neighborhood, who are primarily Latino and worship elsewhere (or no place at all). The school administers its own faith formation programs and the parish provides a Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation to better integrate school families into the life of the parish. The right candidate will be creative, have the ability see ministerial opportunities and have a track record of evangelization, direction, and developing community.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

 

1. Youth Catechesis (K-8, Confirmation)

  • Administration of Youth Catechesis Program
  • Identify, train, form volunteer catechists
  • Investigate catechesis of the good shepherd for youth.
  • Investigate best programming at all levels.

 2.  Adult Faith Formation

  • Regular catechetical/Catholic culture sessions during calendar year, including Lenten Soup and Sessions

3. RCIA/Adult Confirmation

  • Develop core of RCIA team of formators
  • Develop Yearly Schedule
  • Homeschool Family Engagement
  • Support Home School family initiatives such as the regular Family Friendly Adoration, special Masses and potlucks, service opportunities
  • Support Monthly Enrichment experience
  • Explore possibility of Basilica Homeschool Consortium/partnerships with other consortiums.

4. Baptismal Preparation

  • Administer and coordinate baptism sacramental preparation
  • Implement best current offerings
  • Work with Friars, Deacon, Wedding Coordinator and Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation to integrate young families into the life the parish through interaction with the Basilica’s other young families of the sacrament celebrated at the Basilica.

5. Marriage Enrichment

  • Work with Friars, Deacon, and Wedding Coordinator to develop “after marriage” gatherings for the newly married to keep those engaged in thelife of the church through interaction with the Basilica’s young couples/families.
  • Explore opportunities for other Marriage enrichment opportunities, such as conferences, retreats, special Masses.

6. Support to Matrimonial Preparation

  • Work with Friars, Deacon, Wedding Coordinator and Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation to develop sacramental preparation schema responsive to the various experiences.

7. Support to Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation

  • Offer guidance and support to Liaison for Hispanic Faith Formation with the monthly School Family Mass and Quinceañera preparation

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong presentation skills to both small and large groups 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment 
  • Successful track record in visioning and developing popular programs 
  • Organizational and project management skills including attention to detail 
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions and troubleshoot to solve problems 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit integrity, honesty and a high degree of ethics 
  • Desire to be part of a team and work in a highly collaborative environment.

Notes
This is a full-time salaried position and is considered to be at-will. Compensation is competitive. Benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, and is eligible for the Archdiocese pension program. Paid time for personal days and vacation, as well as ongoing formation.
